Brian J. Dougherty counsels and represents clients in a range of employee benefits and ERISA-related matters. Co-leader of the firm’s Plan Sponsor Task Force, he addresses complex legal issues related to benefit plan design, administration, compliance, and litigation, as well as executive compensation matters, including equity compensation, nonqualified arrangements, and employment agreements. Brian represents large- and medium-sized enterprises operating in for-profit and tax-exempt industries.
For multinational companies, Brian handles transition, integration, corrections, and taxable distribution issues related to retirement benefits for US-based employees. He also represents clients in matters involving the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). He recently helped a publicly traded global manufacturer and distributor of industrial products obtain a favorable result after the PBGC threatened to interfere with its recapitalization plans.
Brian has been recognized as a Leading Lawyer by Chambers USA (2011–2015), is a fellow in the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel, and serves on the Board of Senior Editors for Bloomberg BNA’s Employee Benefits Law.
