Ellen H. Johnston is Morgan Lewis's chief human resources officer. In this position, she partners with firm management in the design and implementation of human resource policies and practices. Ms. Johnston also oversees the development and administration of the firm's pension, health, and welfare benefit programs. A seasoned human resources executive, Ms. Johnston manages a team of human resource professionals across the firm's 22 offices.
Ms. Johnston has a B.A. in economics from Duke University and has extensive experience in law firm administration and human resources management. Ms. Johnston first joined the Philadelphia office of Morgan Lewis in 1980. In 1982, she relocated to Miami, Florida and served as the personnel manager in that office until 1984.
As a result of several other relocations, Ms. Johnston worked at Orrick Herrington in San Francisco, where she was the assistant to the Managing Partner and acting director of administration, and at Ballard Spahr in Philadelphia, where she was special projects manager and personnel director. She finally returned to Morgan Lewis in the Miami office as a part-time attorney recruiting coordinator.
Ms. Johnston returned to the Philadelphia area in 1996 and joined Morgan Lewis's firmwide Human Resources Department. She was elevated to her current position as chief human resources officer in 2002.
