Michele E. Martin is Morgan Lewis's legal personnel partner. In this role, she works closely with firm and practice group management, overseeing all matters relating to associate life at the firm, including recruiting, attorney development, evaluations and compensation, promotions, communications, integration, and other related matters. Unlike firms that have separate committees that deal with these issues, Morgan Lewis, through Ms. Martin’s efforts, applies a holistic approach to all issues impacting firm attorneys. Ms. Martin creates links between various efforts and can maximize efforts behind particular goals. In addition, she spends a significant amount of her time talking to associates across the firm.
Prior to accepting this position, Ms. Martin had been an associate with Morgan Lewis in its Litigation Practice with a focus in environmental law. In addition to handling environmental regulatory and litigation matters, she spent a significant portion of her time assessing environmental issues and risks in connection with business and real estate transactions.
In 2004, Ms. Martin left Morgan Lewis to join General Electric at its corporate headquarters in Fairfield, CT. There, she served as counsel in the Corporate Environmental Programs Group, handling environmental issues associated with hundreds of transactions in which General Electric or one of its business units was involved, including acquisitions, divestitures, and equity financings.
The firm invited her to return in 2005 to assume the position of Legal Personnel Partner. In addition to serving in this role, Ms. Martin continues to practice in the area of environmental law as part of the Business and Finance Practice.
Ms. Martin received her J.D. from Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University in 1993, where she was the editor-in-chief of the Dickinson Journal of International Law. She received her B.A. from Smith College in 1990.
Ms. Martin is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania.
