A senior partner and founder of Morgan Lewis’s emerging business and technology practice, Stephen M. Goodman focuses on corporate finance and acquisitions for emerging growth companies in the Philadelphia region. Through direct work with clients and active involvement in the emerging growth community, he strategically counsels technology and life sciences companies. Steve identifies companies with growth potential and guides them through all phases of their evolution, from product development to expansion.
Steve’s track record of transforming young companies into profitable enterprises has earned him recognition in Philadelphia and throughout the United States. In May 2011, he received the Legend Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Greater Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies (PACT) for his leading role in nurturing a number of prominent enterprises in the Philadelphia business community, including CDnow, VerticalNet, ICG Commerce, AirClic, ExcelleRX, and AANet.com. He also consistently ranks as a “Leading Lawyer for Business” by Chambers USA for his work with start-ups and up-and-coming firms.
An active member of the emerging growth community, Steve works to ensure that new businesses have the resources they need for continued growth. He founded the firm’s “Connect at Morgan Lewis” program, which brings together investors and entrepreneurs, and guides clients through the process of refining their investor presentations through individual coaching sessions. He also supports and participates in the Philadelphia region’s entrepreneurial and venture capital networks.
Dedicated to fostering the education of future entrepreneurs, Steve is the longest-tenured member of the advisory board for the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Entrepreneurial Program, and from 2006 to 2014 he taught “Legal Aspects of Entrepreneurship” at University of Pennsylvania Law School. Steve also devotes significant time to mentoring young lawyers in the firm.
