Steve Merrill, the former governor and attorney general of New Hampshire, is chair of Morgan Lewis Consulting. He is also co-chair of the Society of Attorneys General Emeritus. He brings more than 30 years of legal experience in both private practice and public policy litigation.
Steve Merrill represents Fortune 500 companies in complex, multistate matters. He develops and implements effective strategies for the business community dealing with litigation, regulation, and compliance issues. He speaks widely about the growing influence of governors, attorneys general, and state legislatures in defining the prevailing regulatory and legal issues confronting the business community. He represents clients in developing and executing strategies for addressing the legal and political risks companies face.
Steve was twice selected as the “most fiscally responsible governor in America” by the Wall Street Journal/CATO Institute, the only governor to receive the award more than once. He was also one of the most popular elected officials in the state’s history, yet he voluntarily retired from politics with one of the highest popularity ratings to build a state government consulting firm. He is the recipient of honorary academic degrees, including doctorates for civic and educational achievements, and he received “The Distinguished Citizen of the Year” award from New Hampshire’s Daniel Webster Council.
