Employee Benefits – Current Hot Topics in Payroll Tax Audits, FICA Tax Refund Claims, and Withholdings To Deal with 2013 Tax Rate Increases

This presentation will cover many payroll tax issues, ranging from current compliance, through audit exposures and refund claims, including:

• Continuing IRS payroll tax audits of myriad cash and noncash fringe benefits provided both to executives and to traveling workers;
• State payroll tax audits of workers traveling both into and away from various states;
• FICA tax refund claims on downsizing/severance pay; and,
• Dealing with year-end employee requests to increase Federal withholding to cover shortfalls in withholding on supplemental wages, the 0.9% Medicare tax, and the 3.8% Medicare tax on unearned income.
