Beginning January 1, 2009, physicians will no longer be able to participate in the Medicare Part B Competitive Acquisition Program (CAP). The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced on September 10 that it was suspending its CAP program as a result of contractual issues with bidders. This means that, at least for calendar year 2009, physicians will not be able to eschew the “buy and bill” model in favor of participation in CAP.
