PHILADELPHIA, PA, December 19, 2006 – Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP is pleased to announce that Business and Finance Partner Howard L. Meyers has been elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Committee of Seventy (Seventy), a non-partisan organization fighting for honest and efficient government in Philadelphia and throughout the region. Mr. Meyers, who recently stepped down as the Managing Partner for the Philadelphia office of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, has served on Seventy’s Executive Committee since November 2005. Mr. Meyers will continue his active corporate and mergers and acquisitions practice which focuses on companies in the energy, public utility, and manufacturing sectors, and advising on corporate governance matters.

“This is certain to be a pivotal year in Philadelphia politics,” said Mr. Meyers, “and the Committee of Seventy's mission remains what it has always been—to promote honest, effective and efficient government, an informed and involved electorate, and fair election practices.”

Mr. Meyers has a long history of public service in the Philadelphia area. In addition to his new role at Seventy, he is General Counsel and a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Council of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Chair of the Philadelphia Flower Show Executive Committee, a Board member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors and serves on the Campaign Cabinet of the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

In addition to promoting Seventy’s core mission directly, Mr. Meyers and other members of Seventy's Board will be encouraging Seventy to work in collaboration with other interested organizations. “We hope that the entire civic community—as stakeholders in our city’s future—will band together during this election year,” Meyers commented. “We need to help bring interested organizations together so that collectively they have a greater voice in making our government more honest and responsive,” he continued.
