Irvine, CA — Monday, May 1, 2006 — Responding to new business growth and rapidly expanding employer needs in Orange County, California, the global law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP today announced the addition of three labor and employment attorneys to its Irvine office.
Peter Hurtgen, former chair of the National Labor Relations Board, became the founding partner of the firm’s Irvine-based labor and employment practice after resigning his post as director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) in 2005.
Joining Hurtgen in the firm’s Irvine office are Morgan Lewis labor and employment partner Anne Brafford, formerly of the firm’s Los Angeles office, and two Orange County labor and employment lawyers who are new to the firm, Barbara Miller and Jesse Randolph. Miller joins the firm as of counsel from Paul Hastings' Costa Mesa office, and Randolph as an associate from Rutan & Tucker in Costa Mesa.
Labor and Employment Law Global Practice Group Leader Steven R. Wall noted that Morgan Lewis has quadrupled the size of its labor and employment practice in California—one of the nation’s most important markets for labor and employment law—in just the past three years. The firm continues to focus on enhancing its substantial California practice, and points out that two of the major wins cited by The American Lawyer magazine when naming Morgan Lewis 2006 “Labor and Employment Litigation Department of the Year” were handed down in Orange County.
“We’ve brought together attorneys with tremendous experience and expertise to provide Orange County employers with an integrated solution to all employment-related legal issues with local attorneys cognizant of local needs and concerns,” states Wall.
Stephen R. Finn, Managing Partner of Morgan Lewis’ Irvine office reports, “We’ve positioned ourselves well to take full advantage of projected significant growth in multiple Orange County business sectors.”
The Irvine-based labor and employment team has broad experience with California’s uniquely complex labor and employment laws. The firm’s substantial employment practice in California offers the depth of knowledge and expertise necessary to effectively and efficiently defend employment-related litigation, provide the employment counseling necessary to avoid California's wage and hour class action wave, and address traditional labor issues. The new Irvine team represents a valuable addition to Morgan Lewis’ Center for California Employment Counseling, which delivers specialized advice, counseling and training on California-specific labor and employment issues.
With offices in Irvine, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Palo Alto, the Labor and Employment Law Practice Group has more than 50 lawyers in California, and more than 250 lawyers firmwide.
In addition to its first place national ranking from The American Lawyer magazine, Morgan Lewis’s Labor and Employment Law Practice Group also recently was named one of the top three in the nation by Corporate Counsel magazine’s “Who Represents America’s Biggest Companies.” The firm has more than 250 labor and employment attorneys in the United States and Europe.
