Morgan Lewis regularly represents pro bono clients in administrative proceedings before the Social Security Administration.
In once such case referred to the firm by the Homeless Advocacy Project, a Philadelphia team represented a mother and child who needed to establish the paternity of the child’s deceased father in order to obtain Social Security benefits.
The matter involved retrieval of a blood sample of the deceased father, genetic testing, and an affidavit from the mother of the deceased presenting evidence of paternity. In addition to obtaining a significant award of survivor benefits for the child, during the course of the representation we learned that the deceased father (and thereby the young daughter) are also beneficiaries of a will that is being testated.
The Morgan Lewis team is working to ensure that the child receives the full amount due to her under the will.
