WMACCA (Washington Metropolitan Area Corporate Counsel Association) and Morgan Lewis are teaming up to present a one-hour luncheon seminar to discuss how to prepare for potential legislative changes.

Based on the outcome of the 2008 elections, major changes to the nation's labor laws are likely to occur. The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) would dramatically change the union-organizing process by eliminating secret-ballot elections and mandating certification of a union based only on a review of authorization cards collected by the union. The RESPECT (Re-Empowerment of Skilled and Professional Employees and Construction Tradeworkers) Act would narrow the definition of a "supervisor" who is excluded from the coverage of the National Labor Relations Act, thereby increasing the number of employees who are eligible to organize.

The following questions will be answered:

  • What exactly are these acts?
  • What changes should we expect?
  • How can companies prepare for such changes?
