Law Firm Morgan Lewis Celebrates Miami Office’s 30th Anniversary: Donates $30,000 to Community Organizations

MIAMI, November 5, 2007: Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the largest U.S. law firms, today announced it is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Miami office. To mark the event, the firm is donating $10,000 each to the University of Miami School of Law Helping Others through Pro Bono Efforts (HOPE) Public Resource Center, The Education Fund, and LegalLine of Miami-Dade. The firm will present its donations at a November 8 reception celebrating one of the longest, most successful track records of any national law firm in Miami.

“We are proud of what we’ve accomplished here in Miami over the past 30 years with our clients and the community,” said Mark Zelek, Managing Partner of Morgan Lewis’s Miami office. “I can think of no better way to say ‘thank you’ than to make contributions to three Miami organizations that we care deeply about and support.”

The donations also complement Morgan Lewis’s long-term commitment to volunteerism and community service. “Over the past 30 years in Miami, we’ve witnessed a growing commitment to community service by businesses across the spectrum, along with a veritable explosion in workplace diversity,” Mr. Zelek said, “and Morgan Lewis is pleased to participate in both of these positive trends.”

In addition to promoting pro bono legal work by every attorney at the firm, in 2006 and 2007, Morgan Lewis spearheaded the creation of LegalLine of Miami-Dade, South Florida’s only toll-free legal help-line for the legally underserved, sponsored by the Dade County Bar Association.

Morgan Lewis attorneys and staff serve on the board and as volunteers for The Education Fund, which works with the private sector to design and implement initiatives to bring excellence to public education in Miami-Dade and increase student achievement. Another of the firm’s education initiatives is its Platinum Award–winning participation in Miami-Dade’s Kids and the Power of Work (KAPOW) program, which sends professionals to teach at inner city schools each month to help children make the connection between classroom learning and success in work and life.

Last but not least, Morgan Lewis’s anniversary donation to the University of Miami School of Law HOPE Public Interest Resource Center will allow two Morgan Lewis HOPE “leaders” to be selected each year for five years from the minority student population. Each of these leaders will oversee a pro bono project designed to meet the needs of local minorities and will receive awards for their efforts.

“Morgan Lewis came to Miami to stay, we came to grow, and we came to build a successful future here together with our clients and the community,” Mr. Zelek said. “Our vision is for a future that’s even brighter than our first 30 years.”
