Morgan Lewis’s Washington, D.C. office represents clients whose interests are affected by nearly every facet of law in the nation's capital. The Washington office dates back more than 50 years, when the focus was regulatory work in energy and tax. Over time, the office also became predominant in labor and employment and antitrust. Many of our lawyers are former senior government officials.

Today, the Washington office has more than 250 lawyers and has been expanding in targeted areas. We offer clients the advantage of working with lawyers who have a deep understanding of the inner-workings of the federal government. Since the start of our Washington office, we have been fortunate to recruit nationally recognized attorneys who were the senior regulators and decision makers in government. The cadre of high-ranking government officials began with a former chairman of the Federal Trade Commission; a commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission; a deputy, then acting, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency; and an Internal Revenue Service commissioner.

The tradition of high-level recruitment continues today, with the Washington office being home to a former associate attorney general of the United States, chief litigation counsel at the SEC, director of the Office of Policy Planning and Evaluation of the FTC, deputy director of the FTC's Bureau of Competition, a deputy commissioner of the IRS's Criminal Investigation Division, and board member of the National Labor Relations Board.

At Morgan Lewis, where we counsel clients in nearly every stage of business and are involved in some of the country’s largest transactions, we seek to provide clients a regulatory perspective within a business framework. Clients are served in this way by our presence in Washington and by our former government officials practicing in many areas and disciplines. Among the practices interacting daily with agencies of the government are Antitrust, Business and Finance, FDA/Healthcare Regulation, Energy, Intellectual Property, Investment Management, Labor and Employment, Litigation, Real Estate, and Tax.

We also represent many of the Washington area's leading companies and institutions and our lawyers and staff are dedicated supporters of legal aid groups and local charitable organizations.
