Morgan Lewis’s Palo Alto office opened in 2003 with a focus on the business needs of clients in the technology and life sciences industries and their financial services partners. Our strong ties to the region’s business and legal communities enable our lawyers to work closely with clients throughout their entire life cycle—from initial financing of a start-up to liquidity events, such as mergers and public offerings for established industry leaders. Drawing on the resources of an international law firm with offices across the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, our Silicon Valley lawyers offer a full range of legal services. This includes one of the most comprehensive life sciences and healthcare practices in the world, with full regulatory capacity through close collaboration with our teams in Washington, D.C.

We build deep, long-term relationships with our clients, advising on everything from intellectual property protection and litigation to employment law, executive compensation, and international tax planning and corporate governance. We regularly assist our clients on:

  • Strategic intellectual property counseling, patent and trademark prosecution and intellectual property litigation, including privacy and data security counseling, as well as unfair competition and advertising litigation,
  • Litigating and resolving complex cases in all areas of law, including individual and class actions, covering employment, white collar crime, securities, intellectual property, contracts, e-commerce, antitrust, and unfair competition,
  • Mergers and acquisitions, public offerings, and private financings,
  • A full array of labor and employment services, from litigation and arbitration of employment disputes to ERISA and executive compensation and other employee benefits litigation and counseling,
  • A wide range of business immigration law issues, with a particular focus on immigration-related challenges facing multinationals and emerging companies employing talent from outside the United States,
  • Technology transactions, licensing, product development, commercialization, and joint venture transactions in the life sciences, computer technology, and other fields, and
  • Tax advice, including international tax planning and representation in audits and appeals before the Internal Revenue Service.
