Emily J. Lawrence is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Litigation Practice. Ms. Lawrence focuses her practice on product liability and toxic tort defense, most recently representing major pharmaceutical manufacturers in mass tort litigation. She also has been extensively involved in product defect and product recall litigation, including litigation before the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, and has tried cases in product failure, construction defect, and commercial litigation. Ms. Lawrence has counseled clients in designing and implementing nationwide product liability settlements and product replacement programs, and she has acted as a troubleshooter as those programs matured. In addition, Ms. Lawrence counsels clients on litigation-preventive measures, such as quality control and the text and placement of product warranties, and has represented a leading manufacturer of business enterprise software in defeating business tort and franchise claims.
With a history of defending state and federal class action and consumer lawsuits, Ms. Lawrence is a member of Morgan Lewis's class action team. A prolific writer, Ms. Lawrence has written articles on prescription drug labeling and its litigation implications, litigating construction defect cases, legislation affecting federal class action procedure, and money laundering. A former analyst and press secretary for the U.S. House of Representatives Budget Committee, Ms. Lawrence also has published articles on government policy and politics for The Washington Post and other newspapers.
Ms. Lawrence received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston College Law School in 1993 and her B.A., with honors, in history from Haverford College in 1987. After law school, she clerked for Judge J. William Ditter, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Active in the Philadelphia legal community and beyond, Ms. Lawrence is a member of the American and Philadelphia Bar Associations. She serves on the board of Womens Way, the nation's oldest and largest women's funding federation that benefits agencies serving women and girls, and is a founding director of Fans Helping Fans, a nonprofit organization of sports fans that makes grants to people in financial need.
Ms. Lawrence is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania.
