Alex Hanna is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. Mr. Hanna's practice primarily focuses on intellectual property litigation and also includes direct-client counseling and opinions in patent matters involving computer software and hardware, e-commerce, and computer and telephone networks. He has been involved in patent litigations in several U.S. district courts, as well as trade secrets litigations in California state courts. For example, Mr. Hanna has worked on patent litigations in the Eastern District of Virginia and the Central District of California. He has been involved in drafting initial pleadings, handling discovery matters, working on expert issues, attending trial, and performing legal research and writing for post-trial motions.
Mr. Hanna received his J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law in 2006, where he was a staff member of The Business Lawyer, ABA Section of Business Law and later the executive technology editor of the Journal of Business & Technology Law. He interned with the State of New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, and has argued before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals on behalf of an indigent client of the State of Maryland, Office of the Public Defender. Mr. Hanna represented the University of Maryland School of Law at the American Intellectual Property Law Association's (AIPLA) 2006 Giles S. Rich Moot Court Competition, where he received the Best Appellant Brief and Best Appellee Brief Awards (Northeastern Region). He is a recipient of the William P. Cunningham Award for exceptional achievement and service.
Prior to law school, Mr. Hanna was employed with a VoIP and Internet Service Provider, where he served dual roles as a software and network engineer. Prior to that, he was employed as a software engineer at the Software Technology Center of Bell Laboratories. At Bell Laboratories, Mr. Hanna focused on software automation for the Optical Networking Group, and he was recognized with a Central Bell Labs Teamwork and Performance Award.
Mr. Hanna received his B.S., summa cum laude, from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Albert Dorman Honors College in 2001 and ranked first in his class. He is recognized in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and is a U.S. Achievement Academy All American Scholar. Mr. Hanna is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, as well as the Eta Kappa Nu and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Societies. During his undergraduate career, he primarily focused on software and network engineering and completed a minor in computer science.
Mr. Hanna is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and New Jersey and before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
