Robert T. Burns is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. In his practice, Mr. Burns concentrates on engineering and mechanical patent matters.
Mr. Burns came to Morgan Lewis with more than 10 years of civilian and military engineering experience and is a commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He has completed deployments in the Western Pacific and the Mediterranean and graduated from the Navy's nuclear power training program. After active duty and prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Burns worked for Northrup Grumman Newport News Shipbuilding, where he designed aircraft carrier combat systems, and then for BAE Systems, where he specialized in mobile satellite communication systems. During his time at BAE Systems, he was a two-time winner of the Chairman's Bronze Level Award for Innovation.
Mr. Burns earned his J.D. from Regent University in 2005, where he graduated in the top 5% of his class. He was a board member of the Regent University Law Review and a student member of the James Kent American Inn of Court. He received his B.S.E.E., with distinction, from the University of Rochester in 1993.
Mr. Burns is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Virginia and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
