Louis L. Joseph is senior counsel in Morgan Lewis's Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice. Mr. Joseph focuses his practice on ESOPs and other employee benefit plan investments in employer securities. He also advises clients, including employers, financial institutions, and vendors, on a broad variety of fiduciary and prohibited transaction issues arising under ERISA. Mr. Joseph also works extensively in the areas of qualified retirement plans, welfare benefit plans, executive and equity compensation, and nonqualified deferred compensation plans. He has a background in both U.S. and cross-border compensation and benefits issues. Mr. Joseph has represented numerous clients in regulatory matters before the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Department of Labor.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Joseph was a partner in a major accounting and consulting firm and led that firm’s HR-related tax, accounting, and regulatory practice for the central, southwest, and western regions of the United States. Preceding that position, Mr. Joseph served for 11 years in the Office of the Solicitor of the U.S. Department of Labor, primarily engaged in ERISA enforcement litigation. As Associate Solicitor for Plan Benefits Security, Mr. Joseph was the agency’s most senior ERISA counsel.
