Tao Huang is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. Dr. Huang advises clients in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries on strategic patent counseling and prosecution, patent portfolio management, and opinions involving patent infringement, freedom-to-operate, and validity analysis. His practice also focuses on intellectual property due diligence analysis associated with venture capital financing, mergers and acquisitions, and public offerings on a wide range of technologies, including biotechnology, nanotechnology, semiconductor, and analytical instrumentations. Dr. Huang also advises clients on patent licensing and enforcement, as well as venture capital financing.

A biochemist and molecular biologist by training, Dr. Huang has worked in biotechnology related fields for more than a decade. Dr. Huang's background includes biochemistry, molecular biology, physics, biophysics, structural biology, neurobiology, and cancer biology. He has worked on matters in the fields of nucleic acids-based drugs (antisense RNA, siRNA), protein-based drugs (antibodies), protein design, drug screening, stem cells, vaccines, bioassays, medical diagnostics, biosensors, bioengineering, biofuel, and medical devices.

Prior to his legal career, Dr. Huang was a post-doctoral scientist at Princeton University. He received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2005, where he was an articles editor for the Michigan Telecommunications and Technology Law Review. He earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Peking Union Medical College in 1996 and his B.S. in biophysics from Nankai University in 1992. Dr. Huang has co-authored more than 20 scientific research papers and reviews.

Dr. Huang is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
