Joyce E. Taber is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Labor and Employment Practice and is a member of the team's Complex Employment Litigation team. Ms. Taber's practice focuses on defending corporate clients against claims of employment discrimination, including claims of class-wide discrimination, in federal and state courts. Ms. Taber also represents clients before the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and state/local fair employment agencies. Her practice includes litigation and client counseling under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and other federal and state employment laws. Ms. Taber also has conducted internal investigations of workplace harassment and whistleblower claims and provided advice on litigation avoidance, statutory compliance, employment policies and handbooks, and employment contracts.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Ms. Taber was an associate in private practice focusing predominately on advising and defending corporate clients in a wide variety of labor and employment-related matters, including employment discrimination litigation under federal and state laws, labor arbitrations, and complex litigation.
Ms. Taber received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the American University Washington College of Law in 2001, where she was editor-in-chief of the American University Law Review. She was a judicial intern for Judge Ricardo M. Urbina in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in 1999. She received her B.A., magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from the College of William and Mary in 1992.
Ms. Taber is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Virginia and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Districts of Columbia and Maryland, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
