Claire Swift Kugler is of counsel in Morgan Lewis's Litigation Practice. Ms. Kugler focuses her practice primarily on matters involving commercial, toxic tort, and product liability litigation. She represents clients in both federal and state courts in Harris and the surrounding counties. Ms. Kugler also represents clients in Texas appellate courts and in proceedings before the American Arbitration Association. She currently defends energy companies, chemical manufacturing companies, and pharmaceutical corporations.

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Ms. Kugler practiced in the Houston office of Edwards, Burns & Krider LLP, which was recognized by the Houston Young Lawyers Association as the Outstanding Small Law Firm of 2004-2005. Prior to that, she practiced at a full-service international law firm, where she maintained a diverse litigation practice.

Ms. Kugler received her J.D., with honors, from the University of Texas School of Law in 1996. She received her B.A., with highest honors, from the University of Texas in 1993, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Ms. Kugler is admitted to practice in Texas and before the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

  • Obtained summary judgment for technology client in breach of contract, fraud, and business disparagement case.
  • Represented power plant owners, manufacturers, and oil companies in toxic tort litigation, including appeals and mandamus actions.
  • Obtained summary judgment for power plant owner in personal injury action brought by plaintiff who suffered hand amputation.
  • Defended pharmaceutical company in mass tort litigation.
  • Obtained dismissal of lawsuit for energy company based on improper service in fatality case.
  • Negotiated contracts involving goods and services, engineered equipment, consulting services, and other services for Fortune 500 energy company.
