Donald J. Bird is senior counsel in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. His practice focuses on patent procurement, counseling, and interference proceedings, primarily in the fields of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and chemistry. Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Bird was a partner in the intellectual property group at Pillsbury Winthrop LLP.

Mr. Bird has in depth experience in the procurement of patents, including reissues and reexams, and in patent counseling and opinions on various issues including infringement, validity, freedom to operate, due diligence, portfolio analysis and strategic planning. Mr. Bird also has extensive experience in patent interferences and all aspects of Hatch-Waxman proceedings, and has served as primary counsel in prelitigation analyses, and in litigation and arbitration proceedings involving chemical products such as pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. His background in chemical engineering and subsequent litigation and counseling experience give him the foundation to work on matters involving a variety of technologies, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, polymers, fibers, chemical processing, agricultural chemicals, wastewater treatment, metallurgy, and machinery.

Mr. Bird is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
