Ryan P. Blaney is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Litigation Practice. The lawyers in our Litigation Practice provide services in a wide range of areas including business and corporate disputes, corporate investigations and criminal defense, environmental, international arbitration, patent and trademark, securities, toxic tort, and product liability.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Blaney served as a judicial clerk for Judge Robert A. Fall of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division.
Mr. Blaney received his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 2004, where he participated in the year-long Concannon Program of International Law at the Notre Dame London Law Center and worked as a law clerk in the U.S. Embassy, Department of Justice, Foreign Civil Litigation branch. Mr. Blaney received his M.Ed. from the University of Notre Dame in 2001. While completing his M.Ed., Mr. Blaney taught middle school social studies, English, and math at an under-resourced school in Charleston, South Carolina. He received his B.A., cum laude, in government and international relations from the University of Notre Dame in 1999.
Mr. Blaney is admitted to practice in New Jersey and the District of Columbia and before the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.
Selected Representations
- Represented a Fortune 200 health insurance company in three nationwide ERISA class actions involving the reimbursement of out-of-network benefits. The class included more than 2.5 million members who sought billions of dollars in damages. The team successfully made new law in the Third Circuit on issues of first impression regarding class certification and fiduciary exception to the attorney-client privilege, and litigated many cutting-edge e-discovery issues.
- Represented a Fortune 50 computer company in class actions alleging breach of warranty and consumer fraud claims based on the sale of microprocessors.
- Represented a large Pennsylvania energy company in the potential acquisition of two natural gas companies. Mr. Blaney’s duties included assessing the companies’ litigation portfolios.
- Represented a group of partners from a nationally recognized law firm in their transition to another nationally recognized law firm.
- Represented corporate and individual policyholders as New Jersey local counsel in insurance coverage disputes in connection with environmental liability claims.
- Currently represents a large pharmaceutical company in major drug litigation in federal and state courts.
- Currently represents major industrial companies in asbestos personal injury and wrongful death cases in New Jersey.
