A. John Harper III is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Labor and Employment Practice. Mr. Harper represents employers in a wide range of labor relations and employment law matters. He has assisted clients with regard to union-organizing drives by the Teamsters, the International Association of Machinists, the United Steel Workers of America, the Pipefitters, and the Operating Engineers. Mr. Harper also has worked with clients in administering and negotiating collective bargaining agreements.
Mr. Harper has represented employers against discrimination claims under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA). He also has represented clients against claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and state whistleblower laws, has assisted in representing clients in FLSA collective action matters, and has defended clients against ERISA litigation in terms of wrongful denial of benefits and ERISA retaliation claims.
Mr. Harper has spoken on WARN and FMLA issues and has conducted union-avoidance training for employers.
Mr. Harper earned his J.D., cum laude, from Southern Methodist University, Dedman School of Law in 2001 and his B.A., cum laude, from Washington and Lee University in 1998.
Mr. Harper is admitted to practice in Texas and before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
