Barry A. Hartstein is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Labor and Employment Practice and serves as its Chicago Practice Leader. Mr. Hartstein has more than 30 years of experience in counseling and representing employers in a broad range of employment law matters. Mr. Hartstein's practice also focuses on employment litigation in federal and state court, before various administrative agencies and labor arbitration. He has defended employers around the country in both individual and class action claims.
For many years, Mr. Hartstein has served in a leadership role in the American Bar Association's Section of Labor and Employment Law and, from 2002–2004, served as management co-chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Committee, the largest committee of the ABA's Labor and Employment Law Section. Mr. Hartstein also has served in a leadership role with Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations as a member of the board of directors for the school's alumni association, and he currently serves as president of the association.
Mr. Hartstein is a frequent author, commentator, and lecturer on workplace issues and has authored numerous publications in the field, including Employer's Guide to Auditing Personnel and Employment Practices. For the past two years, he also has served as contributing editor and contributing author for Getting the Deal Through's new international publication, Labour and Employment, which summarizes labor and employment laws around the globe.
Mr. Hartstein has been honored by his inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America (2007–2008), Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business (2003–2008), The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers (2005–2007), and the Leading Lawyers Network (2005–2007). In 2001, Mr. Hartstein also was inducted into the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, which recognizes leaders in the field of labor and employment law.
