David C. Foster, Ph.D., is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. A registered patent attorney, Mr. Foster's practice focuses on intellectual property counseling, strategic portfolio development, patent procurement, licensing, and due diligence in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical fields. He has a background in patent prosecution, opinion work, and IP due diligence in the areas of genomics, diagnostics and prognostics, proteomics, immunology, vaccines, biologics, and high-density array technology. He has worked closely with clients' business and technology leaders to develop and coordinate business and scientific activities that protect client interests, including monitoring freedom-to-operate issues and developing offensive and defensive patent positions. Mr. Foster has worked with clients such as universities, startup biotechnology companies, and established biopharmaceutical corporations.
Mr. Foster received his J.D from Golden Gate University School of Law in 2003. While in law school, he was a patent agent in a San Francisco intellectual property boutique, and, following law school, he practiced at a Bay Area general practice law firm prior to becoming in-house intellectual property counsel at a midsized biopharmaceutical company. Mr. Foster received his Ph.D. in biomedical research from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 1997 and his B.S. in biology from the University of North Texas in 1990.
Mr. Foster has co-authored several articles for journals such as the Journal of Biological Chemistry and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Mr. Foster is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
