The Personal Law Practice addresses the legal and financial interests of individuals, family businesses and nonprofit organizations. The practice is devoted to the representation of individuals and family groups of substantial wealth in connection with estate and gift tax planning, family business succession planning, philanthropic planning and management of personal financial interests on a national and international scale. A large part of the practice consists of the representation of major universities, secondary schools and cultural organizations around the country in connection with their planned giving programs.

The Personal Law Group’s ability to service individual and family group clients on a personal level is similar to that of a boutique firm except that we have access to the Firm’s other Practice Groups and thus have the ability to effectively handle all the sophisticated needs of the client.

In addition, a major part of the Group’s practice focuses on the representation of many of the country’s largest universities, secondary schools, museums and other cultural organizations in connection with their planned giving programs. The Group works closely with the planned giving professionals to develop their programs, assist in the preparation of various trust agreements for donors, and advise regarding trends in planned giving.

A substantial portion of the Personal Law Group’s practice also consists of a traditional probate practice and the administration of trusts and estates. The Group is equipped to handle all phases of estate and trust administration with a full staff of estate administrators (paralegals) and accountants. This staffing enables us to provide efficient, cost-effective services for the administration of estates. The accountants in the Group prepare estate and trust tax returns, gift tax returns and tax returns for private foundations.

Members of the Group have broad experience in the international tax planning area. We advise families entering and leaving the United States on strategies for deploying their assets and planning their estates.
