Our Washington, D.C. office has a deep bench of attorneys whose backgrounds enable them to deal with any federal executive and legislative branch enforcement, investigative, and oversight issues.
Congressional and independent commission matters require legal counsel who can strategically manage competing issues, minimize risk, and work in the public spotlight to protect the client's interests. Our attorneys have represented many companies as well as corporate officers, directors, and senior management across the spectrum of business entities in sensitive and high-profile Congressional and independent commission-led investigations, and in parallel investigations involving other federal and state executive branch enforcement agencies.
Clients turn to us because we are not only skilled in navigating such investigations and inquiries, but are also attuned to potentially damaging collateral issues that could lead to further litigation risks, including enforcement actions and shareholder litigation, as well as public relations problems. Clients also value the firm's strong capabilities in the areas and industries that often underlie an investigation.
Our attorneys have experience conducting internal investigations in the private and public sectors, litigating complex matters arising in a variety of industries and regulatory schemes, and handling whistleblower issues in the context of Congressional investigations and other litigation. Moreover, as a result of prior government experience, many have additional significant hands-on experience preparing and representing senior administration officials in Congressional hearings or investigations.
Our practice is led by Fred F. Fielding, an internationally known attorney, counselor, strategic advisor, litigator, and mediator who focuses his practices on corporate services, government affairs, crisis management, and providing general counseling to corporate and individual clients on a broad array of legal and policy issues.
With a distinguished legal career in private law practice and a distinguished public service career as deputy counsel to President Nixon, counsel to Presidents Reagan and Bush, and commissioner of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (commonly referred to as the 9/11 Commission), Mr. Fielding brings the perspective of a skilled negotiator, strategist, and handler of complex and sensitive issues to every matter he addresses.
Mr. Fielding works with a team of Morgan Lewis attorneys who possess the ability to understand and resolve the political, public relations, and practical dimensions of significant Washington problems. The team includes former senior level executive branch officials from both Republican and Democratic administrations who have served in the Department of Justice, the Internal Revenue Service, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and U.S. Attorney's offices, among others. In addition, the team draws support from the firm's deep regulatory and substantive legal and industry expertise.
Our team of attorneys can help successfully steer companies and individuals through or under the glare of the Washington spotlight, while limiting the collateral issues and consequences resulting from these investigations.
