Restoration of California's Daily Overtime Requirement Effective January 1, 2000

Beginning January 1, 2000, most private sector employers in California will be required to pay employees daily overtime. Employees will be entitled to one and one-half the regular rate of pay for any work in excess of eight hours in one day, in excess of forty hours in one workweek and for the first eight hours worked on the seventh day of work of any workweek, even if the employee has not worked forty hours in the previous six days. Employees will also be entitled to twice the regular rate of pay for hours worked in excess of twelve hours in one day and hours worked in excess of eight hours on the seventh day of any workweek.
