The Companies Act 2006, which partly consolidates and partly revises English company law, is being implemented in a number of stages. As part of the latest implementation, which became effective on 6 April 2008, some (but not all) of the new provisions relating to company secretaries became effective. Most of the provisions substantially re-enact existing law. However, the new Act introduces one significant change in relation to private companies.
