On August 19, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) released final instructions to the redesigned Form 990, the information return filed by public charities and other tax-exempt organizations. The final instructions are of immediate interest to tax-exempt organizations with gross receipts of $1 million or more or assets of $2.5 million or more, as they must file the redesigned Form 990 for tax years that begin in 2008. Small organizations have additional time to familiarize themselves with the new form and instructions.
