Release of IRS Letter on Compliance Issues within the Tax-Exempt Sector and Oversight Subcommittee Hearing on Charitable Organizations

Congressional interest in the tax-exempt sector remains strong. On July 24, Sen. Charles Grassley, Ranking Member, Committee on Finance, released a 28-page letter from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) identifying compliance issues within the exempt organizations sector. The same day, the House Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee held a hearing on charitable organizations focusing on compliance and governance concerns and the impact of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA).
