Miami-Dade County, Florida has amended its recently enacted Wage Theft Ordinance to redefine the “reasonable time” for the payment of wages. The ordinance now requires employers to pay wages to employees within 14 days of the work completed, unless the employer has established by policy or practice a pay schedule whereby employees earn and are paid wages according to regularly recurring pay periods.

The Wage Theft Ordinance (No.10-16), which became effective on March 1 and is believed to be the first county law of its nature in the country, was amended by a final vote of 11-0 on June 3 by the Board of County Commissioners. The Amendment (No. 10-37) became effective June 14.
