California Employers Brace for New Wave of Employee Protections

On January 1, 2001, California employers will awaken to a host of new employee statutory protections in a number of areas, including workplace harassment, disability rights, union activity, wage and hour violations, overtime requirements, and access to personnel records. Given the increase in legal exposure and administrative and economic burden these new laws promise to usher in, many employers will no doubt wish they could stay under the covers.
