  • You've Been Hacked: New California Disclosure Law Takes Effect in July:
    On July 1, 2003, new California cybersecurity legislation, SB 1386, will take effect. The legislation was prompted by an April 2002 event in which a computer hacker accessed the Social Security numbers and other personal information of more than 200,000 California state employees (including Governor Gray Davis).
  • General Eisenhower and the Copyright/Trademark Battle:
    The Supreme Court has heard oral arguments in Dastar Corp. v. Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. on the issue of whether trademark law can prevent the copying of public domain material.
  • Are You Covered? Insurance for IP Owners:
    IP owners should be aware that claims of infringement and misappropriation may implicate their insurance provisions for error and omissions, directors’ and officers’, and advertising injury coverage (among others).
