Former Chief Litigation Counsel for Pfizer Joins Morgan Lewis in Houston

HOUSTON, September 25, 2008: As the Houston area got back to business following Hurricane Ike, Morgan Lewis announced that a top litigator and respected former in-house counsel has joined its rapidly expanding team in Texas. Sandra L. Phillips, who was senior vice president and associate general counsel at pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, will focus her practice on complex litigation management and strategy. Morgan Lewis has more than tripled its Texas presence over the past year, drawing such notable talent as the state’s former solicitor general, Ted Cruz.
As Pfizer’s chief litigation counsel, Ms. Phillips built and led high-performing teams and set legal strategies for the company’s litigation matters, effectively managing litigation by using innovative mitigation strategies and developing the company's outside counsel partnering program, which resulted in more efficient and cost-effective case management. Prior to Pfizer, Ms. Philips was in private practice in Houston, where she served as both coordinating and trial counsel in mass tort and commercial litigation representing Fortune 500 companies.
Ms. Phillips has held leadership positions in professional and community organizations throughout her career. A former board member of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association, she was actively involved in diversity programs and initiatives in private practice and at Pfizer, and provides diversity consulting as a part of her regular practice. Ms. Phillips recently received the 2008 Diversity Pioneer Award from the Defense Research Institute.
