MINNEAPOLIS, MN, September 22, 2009: Morgan Lewis partner Nina Stillman will advise HR directors from some of the nation’s leading corporations today at a national summit entitled, “Keeping the World Working during an H1N1 Pandemic,” sponsored by the Center for Infectious Disease Research & Policy (CIDRAP).
Ms. Stillman will present best practices on protecting employee health, critical operations, and customer relations during an HR issues break-out session at the Summit from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. She can be reached for quotes by cell and e-mail.
“Employers are struggling with how to respond to the threats posed by an H1N1 pandemic within the context of complex and often conflicting employment laws and their own established workplace policies,” Ms. Stillman explains. “My aim is to help employers leverage late-breaking recommendations from the CDC and best-practice preparations from recent avian flu and SARS outbreaks in ways that don’t compromise well-crafted policies and practices that have served them well over the years.”
Ms. Stillman says she has already advised clients who wish to create specific H1N1 exemptions to established absence policies that will encourage employees to stay home rather than come to work with the flu. She has also recently helped clients craft H1N1 policies that financially incentivize employees with the flu to go to a doctor for a return-to-work certificate without running afoul of state and federal laws or employer policies which would not otherwise permit employers to require such certificates for a short-term absence.
