LONDON, April 15, 2010: Morgan Lewis today announced that Susan Quint, who served as Group Legal Director and Company Secretary for British Nuclear Fuels Limited (BNFL) through 2009, has joined Morgan Lewis as a partner in the firm’s Energy Practice, resident in London. She brings more than 20 years of “hands on” nuclear industry experience in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sue to the team at this exciting time for the nuclear energy industry, particularly in London, which is at the center of the industry’s ever-increasingly international scope," said Jay M. Gutierrez, leader of the Energy Practice at Morgan Lewis, who himself regularly spends time in the London office. “As the U.K. implements a national policy encouraging nuclear as an option to coal-based generation, Sue’s mastery of the U.K.’s nuclear regulatory regime makes her an ideal lead partner to stimulate growth of the Energy Practice overseas.”

The U.K.—like many countries—is undergoing a nuclear renaissance, with the Department for Energy and Climate Change, in November 2009, approving 10 sites as potentially suitable for the construction of a new fleet of nuclear power stations. Ms. Quint is actively involved in the licensing of plants in the U.K. and working with the existing nuclear companies on their decommissioning mission.

“Morgan Lewis’s Energy Practice is among the best-regarded in the industry—not only have they been at the forefront of regulatory issues in the U.S., but they are already playing a key role with leaders in the U.K. nuclear industry,” noted Ms. Quint. “The depth and breadth of their practice were very attractive, and I look forward to working with this experienced team both in the U.K. and the U.S.”

In addition to her mastery of nuclear regulatory issues, Ms. Quint also has experience with international M&A, commercial construction, dispute resolution, and, more recently with the sale by BNFL of Westinghouse Electric LLC, corporate employment and governance matters. She began her career with BNFL in the early 1980s, qualifying as a Solicitor in 1992.

“As a former General Counsel, Sue knows the needs of our in-house colleagues,” added Chuck Lubar, Managing Partner of the firm’s London office. “Her intimate knowledge of the U.K. nuclear regulatory regime and business savvy will differentiate Morgan Lewis in the London market in a way that will be valuable to clients, given the complexity and importance of plant licensing and development.”

Ms. Quint’s arrival follows the announcement by the firm last fall that it will focus its efforts in London on growing the firm’s corporate, employment, and energy practices. In the past several months, the chair of the firm’s Labour and Employment Practice, Mark Dichter, relocated to London, and the firm added three attorneys, led by Matthew Howse to its U.K. employment team.
