LOS ANGELES, May 1, 2004 - Edward Zaelke has joined Morgan Lewis’ Energy and Business and Finance Practices as a partner resident in its Los Angeles office. Mr. Zaelke was formerly a senior partner in the Los Angeles office of Arnold & Porter, where he led its West Coast real estate practice and headed its national wind energy practice.
In joining Morgan Lewis, Mr. Zaelke brings a substantial practice involving the representation of companies engaged in the development and finance of wind power and other alternative energy projects. With a national reputation as one of the leading lawyers in the wind energy industry, Mr. Zaelke has represented clients in connection with the completion of wind energy projects totaling more than 1400 megawatts of net capacity throughout the United States over the past six years, which represents approximately one-third of all wind energy projects completed in the United States during that period of time. He is currently involved in several hundred additional wind energy projects throughout the country. Mr. Zaelke also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Wind Energy Association.
"Ed is a tremendous addition for us," offered John Hartigan, Managing Partner of Morgan Lewis’s Los Angeles office. John added, "He brings us unsurpassed experience in the wind power arena, an important growth market in the energy area. Further, his skills will nicely complement those of Dick Shortz, the head of the firm’s highly regarded Energy Finance Practice."
Mr. Zaelke received his law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law in 1983 and his undergraduate degree from California State University at Long Beach in 1980.
A Growing Team
Also joining Morgan Lewis from Arnold & Porter is Tom Dupuis, who joins the firm as of counsel in the Energy and Business and Finance Practices. Mr. Dupuis’s practice includes the development, purchase and sale of energy projects, with a particular emphasis on wind power. Mr. Dupuis also has an active real estate practice, in which he represents developers and investors in the acquisition, disposition, leasing, development, construction and financing of office, retail and industrial properties. In 1994, Mr. Dupuis earned his J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School, and he is a 1991 graduate of Northwestern University.
