LONDON, September 24, 2009: Morgan Lewis today announced that Business and Finance partner Charles G. Lubar will serve as Managing Partner in London, effective October 1, 2009. His appointment follows the decision of Litigation partner Robert Goldspink, who has held the position since 2004, to retire at the end of September. Going forward, Morgan Lewis will focus its efforts in London on growing the firm’s corporate, employment, and energy practices.

“Chuck, who was part of the team that founded our London office and served as its Managing Partner until the mid-1990s, will resume his former role,” said Firm Chair Francis M. Milone.

Goldspink has been a partner at the firm for more than 12 years and has served as lead counsel in a number of notable matters, such as Rabobank v. NatWest, where Morgan Lewis advised Rabobank on its action against NatWest for fraudulent and negligent misrepresentation during the workout of a $100 million syndicated loan to Yorkshire Food Group.

“Bob has been the backbone of our London Litigation Practice and the primary reason why we have been able to attract significant matters in the UK,” noted Milone.

Morgan Lewis has recently been focusing its growth efforts on its corporate, energy, and employment practices. The head of the firm’s Energy Practice, Jay Gutierrez, will be spending at least three months in London beginning this month. During that time, he will be working closely with Chuck Lubar and David Asmus—formerly the head of the global Oil and Gas Practice at Baker Botts, and now the head of the firmwide Energy Transactions Practice at Morgan Lewis—on recruiting and growth efforts.

Lubar, who has been a Morgan Lewis partner for nearly 30 years, served in various management roles at the firm following his last term as London Managing Partner. He is well known for several high-profile tax structuring matters in which he took the leading role— including the production of the Muppet Show in London and the acquisition of the ATV Music Catalogue (including the Beatles Catalogue) for Michael Jackson.

“This is a very exciting time in the history of our London office, with enhanced capabilities in corporate and employment law, as well as our outstanding Energy Practice becoming a driver for growth,” said Lubar. “I look forward to the opportunities ahead, as we continue the kind of strategic expansion that best serves our clients’ needs.”
