  • Defended a major oil refining company in connection with federal and state criminal prosecutions and EPA debarment proceedings arising out of an oil refinery explosion that resulted in the death of one refinery worker, serious injuries to other workers, and the release of 1.1 million gallons of sulfuric acid.
  • Defended a major utility in connection with an oil spill from a company-owned pipeline that discharged more than 5,000 barrels of oil into a major waterway, including handling the defense of a National Transportation Safety Board investigation and related state and local inquiries.
  • Defended the CEO of a multinational testing laboratory in a criminal indictment alleging alteration of test results, including oil sulfur levels and reformulated gas standards.
  • Defended a county agency in connection with a criminal investigation under the Clean Water Act (CWA) involving alleged wrongful discharge of paint products.
  • Defended a major pharmaceutical company in a criminal investigation alleging alteration of required documents in a discharge case from a manufacturing facility.
  • Defended the chief engineer of an ocean-going vessel in a criminal investigation alleging ocean dumping by bypassing the oily water separator.
  • Defended a major pipeline company in connection with a federal criminal prosecution arising out of a pipeline break that resulted in the discharge of petroleum products into the Allegheny River.
  • Defended a publicly traded corporation in connection with a criminal investigation under the CWA involving alleged falsification of Discharge Monitoring Reports.
  • Defended a major oil refining company in connection with a federal criminal prosecution under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act arising out of the alleged death of birds at or near a refinery site.
  • Defended a manufacturer in connection with a state criminal prosecution arising out of alleged false reporting under a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.
