Regulatory compliance. All energy companies claim to be committed to it in one form or another, and many companies have taken steps to formalize their efforts to comply with the statutes that give FERC broad jurisdiction over the electric and natural gas industries—the Federal Power Act (FPA), the Natural Gas Act (NGA), and the Natural Gas Policy Act (NGPA)—and with FERC's rules, regulations, and orders under those statutes. But recent developments make a strong commitment by energy companies to regulatory compliance more important than ever. A structured regulatory compliance program now is a fundamental imperative for any successful energy business.
