Matthew Howse is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Labour and Employment Practice and is the practice group leader for the Labour and Employment Practice in London. His practice includes both contentious and noncontentious matters and is focused on companies in the financial services, media, legal, and insurance industries. Matthew provides strategic advice on employment law issues, advises on the employment law aspects of transactions, and has successfully represented clients in high court and employment tribunal litigation.
Matthew also advises and represents clients with respect to privacy law issues, including providing data protection compliance advice, reviewing data protection and employee monitoring policies, and advising on freedom of information and the law of confidentiality.
From London, Matthew is part of our cross-practice Global Workforce team that provides integrated cross-border advice, counseling, and strategic planning across the spectrum of labor, employment, benefits, and immigration issues.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Matthew led the employment practice of a major US law firm in London, and he previously was a partner in a leading employment practice with a UK law firm.
Matthew is listed as a leading employment practitioner in Chambers UK, Chambers Europe, and Chambers Global, where he is referred to as "an extremely knowledgeable lawyer who always takes a commercial view," and "Howse is praised for his top-notch strategic advice and ability to 'remain calm and confident under pressure.'" Legal 500 UK also describes Matthew as "extremely capable." He regularly lectures on employment law at conferences. Matthew has recently written articles on age discrimination and paternity rights for leading UK employment publications including The HR Director and The Employment Law Journal. He is also a member of the BritishAmerican Business HR & Employment Forum.
Matthew received his LPC from the College of Law of England and Wales, Guildford in 1990 and his LLB from the University of Southampton, England in 1989. He is admitted to practice in England and Wales as a Solicitor.
