Joseph Bias is an associate in Morgan Lewis’s Litigation Practice. The lawyers in our Litigation Practice provide services in a wide range of areas including business and corporate disputes, corporate investigations and criminal defense, environmental, international arbitration, patent and trademark, securities, toxic tort, and product liability.
From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Bias served as an attorney advisor to four administrative law judges at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. While there, he drafted several decisions resolving complex litigation over a variety of procedural and substantive issues, including discovery production, summary dismissal, cost allocation, contract interpretation, and market power mitigation. Mr. Bias also assisted with numerous alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Bias also worked as an associate at a civil and criminal defense firm in Washington, D.C., where he drafted motions and pleadings and also second-chaired hearings and trials. In addition, Mr. Bias directed many defense investigations for felony cases before the Superior Court of the District of Columbia and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
Mr. Bias received his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2007, where he was the recipient of the CALI award in Advanced Antitrust Law and Economics and a senior staff member of the Georgetown Journal of Law and Public Policy. While in law school, Mr. Bias served as a judicial intern for Judge Ricardo M. Urbina of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, where he drafted decisions adjudicating both procedural and substantive issues in employment discrimination and habeas corpus cases, and observed and assisted with several civil and criminal trials. He received his B.A., with honors, in political science from the University of San Diego in 2002.
