Margaret M. Gatti is a partner in Morgan Lewis's International Trade & Economic Sanctions Practice. Ms. Gatti's practice encompasses export control and customs law, embargoed country regulations, international tax and trade law, government contracts, and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) matters.
Ms. Gatti represents U.S. and non-U.S. clients in international trade, national security, and U.S. government contract matters. Her international trade practice includes export control regulations, embargoed country regulations, customs law, free trade agreements, anticorruption laws, INCOTERMS, and international commercial transactions.
Ms. Gatti also represents manufacturers, exporters, importers, and brokers involved in the defense industry before the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC); the U. S. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS); the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC); and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE). She frequently assesses export control jurisdiction for exported products, determines the appropriate U.S. Munitions List Categories and Export Control Classification Numbers, and drafts Commodity Jurisdiction Requests to the DDTC and Classification Requests to the BIS.
In addition to her work in the international arena, Ms. Gatti maintains a corporate practice focusing on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructuring, and corporate governance matters.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Ms. Gatti was a partner in the corporate practice of a national law firm.
Ms. Gatti earned her J.D., with honors, from Rutgers School of Law, Camden in 1991 and her M.B.A. from Temple University in 1982. She earned her M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1976 and her B.A., cum laude, from Saint Joseph's University in 1974.
Ms. Gatti is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Court of International Trade.
