Jeffry S. Mann, Ph.D., is head of Morgan Lewis’s San Francisco Intellectual Property Practice. His practice focuses on developing and implementing patent strategies, counseling, prosecution, licensing and due diligence, primarily in organic and organometallic chemistry, molecular imaging and contrast agents, materials, pharmaceuticals, spectroscopy, separations, catalysis and biotechnology. Dr. Mann has also obtained patent coverage for clients in the areas of biosensors, fluorescent and luminescent probes, microarrays, biogasification and organic synthesis using enzymes.

Before beginning his patent law practice, Dr. Mann served on the faculty of the Department of Radiology at the University of California, San Francisco, directing a chemical research program funded by private, federal and industrial grants. In collaboration with scientists at the Contrast Media Laboratory and the Magnetic Resonance Science Center, Dr. Mann developed biodegradable macromolecular drug delivery vehicles for contrast agents used in diagnostic imaging. Dr. Mann remained an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Radiology at UCSF for several years after he began practicing law. Prior to joining the UCSF faculty, Dr. Mann was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Pharmacy, where he developed nucleotides bearing novel fluorescent and intercalating agents.

Dr. Mann is a named inventor on two U.S. patents covering biodegradable drug delivery vehicles for polymeric contrast media. He is the author or co-author of 27 peer-reviewed articles and two book chapters in the areas of organic synthesis, contrast media and diagnostic medical imaging.

In 1997, Dr. Mann earned his J.D. from Golden Gate University. He earned his Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry from the University of Oregon in 1990 and his B.S. in chemistry from California State University, Sacramento in 1985.
