E. Kate Berezutskaya, Ph.D., is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Intellectual Property Practice. Ms. Berezutskaya valuates patent portfolios; advises clients in connection with freedom-to-operate opinions, noninfringement analysis and trademark searches; prepares license agreements; prosecutes patent and trademark applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; and coordinates prosecution efforts of foreign associates. She also assists clients in patent infringement cases.

Dr. Berezutskaya has experience protecting intellectual property rights in U.S. and foreign jurisdictions, with a focus on inventions related to life sciences; the food industry; pharmaceuticals; diagnostics; virology and viral diseases; genetics and hereditary diseases; cancer diagnostics, treatment, and management; compositions and methods of treatment with stem cells; chemical compounds and compositions; immunology and immunological disorders; biotechnology; drug development; nanotechnology; medical devices and surgical procedures. 

Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Dr. Berezutskaya as an associate in the Chicago office of an international law firm. Prior to that, she worked as a patent agent at a major law firm and conducted research as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Chicago. She also evaluated invention disclosures at the University of Chicago Technology Transfer Office, consulted with the office on marketing strategies for university inventions, and assisted in drafting material transfer and license agreements.

Dr. Berezutskaya earned her J.D., with a certificate in intellectual property law, from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2007. She earned her Ph.D. in molecular biology and biochemistry from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1997 and her M.S. in biology/virology from Moscow University in 1991.

Dr. Berezutskaya is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
