Bernard J. Garbutt III is a partner in Morgan Lewis's Litigation Practice. Mr. Garbutt's national practice focuses on class actions, individual lawsuits, and regulatory investigations in the securities and investments area. He has represented public companies, investment banks, broker-dealers, private equity firms, investment advisors, and other financial institutions in securities fraud and derivatives suits, regulatory investigations, and a variety of other matters.

Mr. Garbutt's experience in this area includes the following representations: one of the largest broker-dealers in a suitability action brought in the context of the largest municipal bankruptcy; one of the largest mutual fund companies in regulatory investigations; a large online broker in securities fraud actions; a Big Four accounting firm in a variety of securities fraud and accounting malpractice actions in both federal and state courts; a broker-dealer in an antitrust action relating to initial public offerings; and a commercial bank in a lender liability/securities fraud class action.

Mr. Garbutt has also handled individual and class action suits in the areas of product liability and environmental contamination, involving fuel, chemicals, manufacturing, asbestos, pharmaceuticals, and computer software. His experience in this area includes the following representations: one of the largest airlines in an action involving remediation of fuel at an international airport; transportation companies and manufacturers in asbestos personal injury suits; a preeminent software manufacturer in a products liability action; and a pharmaceutical company in over 60 product liability actions in state and federal courts.

Mr. Garbutt is admitted to practice in New York and Connecticut and before the U.S. Supreme Court.
