Advisers that solely advise funds that are able to fit the narrow definition of "venture capital fund" set forth by the SEC are exempt from registration requirements imposed by the Dodd-Frank Act, but are still required to comply with recordkeeping and reporting obligations.

Abigail Bertumen is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Investment Management and Securities Industry Practice. Ms. Bertumen focuses her practice on the regulation of investment companies and investment advisers.

Ms. Bertumen received her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2008, where she was executive editor for the University of Baltimore Intellectual Property Law Journal. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Bertumen worked in the mutual funds legal department of Deutsche Asset Management. She received her B.A., magna cum laude, from Ithaca College in 2001.

Ms. Bertumen is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
