Marisa M.E. Fortunati is an associate in Morgan Lewis's Litigation Practice. Ms. Fortunati focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation, particularly on cross-border transactions involving multiple jurisdictions. She has trial experience, as well as experience with intellectual property matters; securities matters; and commercial matters involving business torts, contracts, and injunctive relief. Ms. Fortunati has tried cases in both state and federal courts and has appellate experience in both state and federal courts.
Ms. Fortunati is committed to community service. She currently serves as a United Way Young Leader and is a member of the United Way Council on Aging. She also served as the associate co-chair for the Miami Office's Pro Bono Committee. In her most recent pro bono representation, she second-chaired a federal damages trial under the Alien Tort Claims Act and the Torture Victims Prevention Act on behalf of victims of a military massacre, resulting in an award of $37 million in damages.
Prior to joining Morgan Lewis, Ms. Fortunati practiced in London, where she worked on international arbitration and mergers and acquisitions for international corporations with interests in the United States. Prior to working in London, Ms. Fortunati practiced securities litigation and international arbitration in California.
Ms. Fortunati received her J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2003, where she was a recipient of the Hilmer J. Oehlmann, Jr. Award for Excellence. She received her A.B. with honors, in history and literature from Harvard College in 1998. Ms. Fortunati is fluent in English and Spanish, and proficient in French and Catalan.
Ms. Fortunati is admitted to practice in Florida, New York, and California and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit; the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Florida; and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
